The Cricket haters & the cricket lovers

April 18th, 2011 by Ridhima Suri

So the ICC World Cup 2011 is over. They say there is a lull before the storm but I am experiencing a ‘lull after the storm’.

India won the World Cup after 28 years and the joy of witnessing history was tremendously high. As India passed every hurdle in the 45 days before the finals, the anticipation increased. Defeating Australia, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka was a daunting task. I hoped that we would win and felt restless with each passing day.

There are two reasons for that. Keeping up with cricket on another time zone (pacific time zone for me) is not an easy task. You wake up all night or peep on your phone during the night for current updates. You work through the day and hope to get some sleep in  the evening. If your country is winning, cricket takes up more and more of your time. In a good way, that is.

Book Review:Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother

Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother : Amy Chua

I was holding onto the book through the day and read a couple of chapters whenever possible: waiting for the eye exam, waiting for the car wash, waiting during a doctor’s appointment. Amy Chua made me laugh. Amy Chua left me flabbergasted and I sighed with relief. I was relieved to think that it was just a book and had nothing to do with me. Her thoughts are aggressive and I did not agree with her method.

Yet, there was a connection. I did not know why.

As I waited for my eye doctor to show up, I thought,”It’s a great book! I like it.”

Just then he walked in and he noticed the book. He grinned and asked,”How is this book?”.

I said “I like it.”

He was expressionless. Then he coaxed me, “Do you want to raise your children like that?”. He disapproved the book in just a few seconds but politely asked me to get back to him with my final review. It was obvious that he had just read the WSJ article and not even thought about reading the book. I could tell that he did not want to get anywhere close to the book!

Share your H4 visa interview experience : Do the other H4 visa applicants a favor!

March 10th, 2011 by Ridhima Suri

Hey folks,

Thanks for stopping by on this blog. Among many other things, this blog offers information for people who are applying for H4 visa. Our goal is to share knowledge and provide answers to deal with the nitty gritty of the H4 visa application process. We do not give legal advice and encourage people to share their practical experiences with others. The H4 visa interview process is very subjective and approval is usually based on how well you answer questions and present the necessary paperwork.

So instead of writing thank you emails to me, please share your H4 visa interview details here. You will help many people who are looking for this information. Please share this information in the following format. If this is too much, just write anything that can help other H4 visa applicants!

  1. Which U.S. Embassy/Consulate did you go to?
  2. What questions were you asked during the interview?
  3. Was your H4 visa application accepted or rejected?
  4. How long did the H4 visa interview last?
  5. Were you accompanied by your spouse (H1 visa holder)?
  6. Share any other peculiarities of your case: name change, marriage certificate issues, 221(g), etc.
