Movie Review: Kurbaan (2009)

November 21st, 2009 by Ridhima Suri

By far ‘Kurbaan’ is a decent watch and successfully engages the audience. I am a big fan of hindi movies but have been bitterly disappointed by recent movie releases. Kurbaan did not let anyone sleep! I went to watch this movie only because I liked the song ‘Shukraan’ but got more than just lyrics n music!

The movie portrays the love between Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan and quickly moves on to show a conspiracy for terrorist attacks.  The love story was not lingered on and there was no singing around the trees. I really like the storyline and appreciate the fact that Karan Johar has given us a decent watch.

Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor play their roles well and the on-screen chemistry seems to be explored to newer dimensions. Vivek Oberoi has given a great performance. Om Puri acts well but I have to say Kiron Kher is such a versatile and talented actress!  Ask her to play a Bengali lady, Punjabi mom and an Afghani fundamentalist, she does not fail to surprise us.  She does justice to all.  Five stars to Kher.

Paranormal Activity : Movie Review

November 17th, 2009 by Ridhima Suri

If you’ve read any of the other reviews for ‘Paranormal Activity’, you will notice that many reviewers talk about ‘not sleeping’ at night after watching it.Yes it is true. If you have not watched this movie and have an appetite to digest strangely creepy movies you must watch it.  If you are scared of horror movies easily please do not watch it.

I waited for almost 2 weeks before writing this review. Not only was I scared to write about ‘Paranormal Activity’ but even thinking about the movie made me feel the creeps!  Yes..that’s the word! The movie was ‘unusually creepy’ not ‘horrifying’. I’d prefer to use the word ‘horrifying’ for other scary movies. This movie will not let you forget it. When you think about it, you are scared all over again.

Here’s my take:

We went for this movie in downtown San Jose.  I had no clue what to expect. I did not even read any reviews.  A friend said,’Let’s go! It has great reviews on IMDB’. ‘Let’s go!’ it was..:)

Hair Tips: Great Herbal Hair Pack!

November 9th, 2009 by Ridhima Suri

Hair loss is a common problem for everyone. I tried this simple (homemade) herbal hair pack to reduce hair loss and condition my hair. Works really well.

Ingredients:

  • 2-3 tbsp of Amla powder/Amla-Reetha-Shikakai powder2.  1 egg (full)
  • 3 spoons curd
  • 1 tbsp honey/1/4 tsp coffee (optional)
  • water (for consistency)

Apply any hair oil. Let it on for 20-30 mins.

Mix all the ingredients to make a thick paste.

  1. If you gawk at the mention of egg on hair, trust me the egg will leave no smell.
  2. Quantity may vary according to length of hair.
  3. You may use any disposable box to prepare the pack.  Later you can just toss it away.  That way you do not have to clean up much!
  4. You can buy the amla powder at any Indian store. You can choose to buy a pack that combines all the three-amla-reetha-shikakai or simply a pack that has amla powder.
  5. The hair pack is good for damaged hair & color-treated hair.
  6. This hair pack can be used by both men and women.

Apply on hair for say 30 mins. Wash off. Enjoy a silky mane!

Blogging without rules

October 19th, 2009 by Ridhima Suri

Is there a rule that says that you should write blog posts everyday?

Well there should be, because if our mind is bumbling with so many ideas and we have the strangest penchant for sharing everything good and bad, until we compel ourselves to write regularly, we would never do it. Would that stiffle innovation? Maybe. Maybe not.

The reality is that there is no such rule.  Many times I have an idea to share: like a visit to National Park or advise on a visa or a movie that I watched or a lecture that I attended.  But it remains an idea and never makes it to our blog.  There are several drafts waiting to be completed! There are countless ideas waiting to be typed into WordPress! Why do the ideas remain ideas for a long time ? Honestly, we would do it but we would lose even more sleep along the way. So in a way it is good that there is no rule about blogging.  There is lot of spontaneity.
