Camping sites near the Bay Area
Are you thinking of going camping in the Bay Area? You will be surprised to know that there are several hundred campsites in the San Francisco Bay Area. There are many private campgrounds as well. You can pitch your own tents or stay in tent cabins. You can also take RVs (Recreational Vehicle). Almost all the campsites have a picnic area, picnic tables, fire rings, restrooms, group picnic area, etc. Few sites have wi-fi and cellphone network. During the day you can go hiking, fishing, or just relax in your tents. Some camp grounds have sites on dry stretches of land while others are in the middle of redwoods. I personally prefer campgrounds with lots of trees. The camp site remains cool and shaded.
Some campground recommendations are:
- Big Basin Redwood State Park (Saratoga)
- Henry Coe Park(Morgan Hill)
- Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park (Monterey)
- Portola Redwoods State Parks (La Honda)
- Castle Rock State Park (Los Gatos)
- Angel Island State Park (San Francisco)
- Mount Tamalpais State Park (Mill Valley)
- Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park (Scotts Valley, Santa Cruz)
- Mount Diablo State Park (Clayton)

5 reasons to go camping
Camping is hard. During a camping trip you have to pitch tents, cook food, sleep on the floor, make a fire, trek and hike. All this a lot of work. Yet it is fun too. Here are five reasons why you should go on a camping trip.
- It’s a great adventure and gives an opportunity to explore the diverse flora and fauna.
- It’s a great time to bond with family. Cooking food, pitching tents requires group effort. It’s a good time to involve your family. Bonding takes place by default as there is little technology(tv, Internet) around.
- It is a great way to bond with mother nature. It’s an amazing way to admire the sky, trees, rivers, and, mountains.
- It’s a great way to live simply. You realize how little you actually need to sustain life. A few square feet of tent area, beautiful surroundings, simple food and fire to keep you warm- that is all a man really needs to live!
- It’s a great way to enjoy stargazing. Cook food. Enjoy a campfire while waiting for the sky to get dark. Set up your scope and other gear in time. Show fellow campers the pretty sky and galaxies!
Camping conjures up a rather unique picture in my mind. I feel like part of the Stone Age (what??) where everyone had a task to do. Men hunted for food while women cooked and grew crops. Older folks looked after the cattle and fed the children. Everyone had a chore to do. Camping is similar. You have to accomplish several tasks before you can start the campfire and play games. Five reasons or ten it boils down to one thing: Camping is a lot more fun than no camping at all!
