San Jose Sharks won: Outside HP Pavilion
May 8th, 2010 | by Ridhima Suri |
So the San Jose Sharks defeated Detroit Red Wings in what must have been an amazing match. I write ‘what must have been’ as I did not go to watch. Next time I will. I am simply writing this post to report my account of what happened on the streets after the Sharks won.
As we were turning on Sunol street, I noticed many cars honking. It was rather unusual on an otherwise quiet street. Soon, I realized that people were coming out of HP Pavilion and a Google alert popped up with the news of the victory. We decided to turn towards HP Pavilion to hit our favourite restaurant.
The fervor was unmistakably addictive. It was like a mega festival outside HP Pavilion. Everyone wore ‘Sharks’ Tees & Sweatshirts. People poured onto streets (The Alameda, Mongomery, W .Julian, Park Ave and nearby) with flags and posters. Pedestrians were screaming in excitement.
I saw a man dancing on the street on a green light and hundreds others cheering him as a police cop hurried to push him back on the sidewalk. No one wanted to yell on him and cross. Everyone was honking fervently and it was a great emotional moment for thousands of supporters. The nearby Tee vendor was selling Ts like hotcakes! It was ‘cheers and beers’ time in San Jose. The party mood was not going to end soon and soon enough I was waving and cheering as well!! The excitement and positive vibes outside HP Pavilion today marked the victory of San Jose Sharks. Also made our drive worthwhile!
