The Blind Side (2009)

I like to watch good movies and then write about them. It was long due to watch ‘The Blind Side’ and we kick started the Oscar festival by watching the Sandra Bullock movie yesterday. I am not a big fan of Sandra Bullock and I am not much into sports movies as well. I do like movies that focus on specific social & political issues.
Blind Side is a great watch for the following reasons:
- This movie was an awesome family movie and I was enamored by Sandra Bullock’s acting. There was no Sandra Bullock there. Absolutely not. She played the character so well that it was no longer a surprise how she was voted ‘best actress’ and the movie bagged so many awards this year.
- There was also no heavy dose of the game.
- It portrays a kind white family who takes on the responsibility of a poor & uneducated (and fairly huge in size) black teenager.
The movie focuses on emotions and drama that brings joy to the viewer. The movie inspires the viewer to be compassionate and kind to others. It is a unique plot as its based on a real-life story of Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy who take in a homeless teenage boy named Michael or “Big Mike”. The boy has a traumatic childhood and has little memory of his father. His mother is a poor, soulless wreck.
The movie portrays how the family takes the boy under their wings and each member makes a contribution to make him a capable person. The effort is spearheaded by Leigh Anne and she makes sure he is comfortable, has plenty to eat, learns well, has good grades, has a new car, and plays the game well.
It is a touching story. Everyone has acted well. It is a simple movie with a simple message-’be good, do good. If you are privileged, give back to the society. Even if you are not be a good person. ‘
Hats off to Sandra Bullock and the entire team for good performances! I am very happy that the movie shone at Oscars. Five stars!*****
