i am getting cse at iit guwahati and also chemical at iit kgp.which one is more appropriate.i want better placement after my btech.which one provides better.

We live in a world where we get often get so much useful info from other people on the internet , that we should all contribute to this big pool of info
Crowdsourcing !!
BTW I had also once written an article on things to take into account while selecting a branch/Institute .
Some of these things can be factored in while making decisions not just for IIT but other institutes as well ..

Many people from KGP went abroad to study with recos from their professors , so that bit is untrue .

Earlier there was a ban on foreign placements but since 2006/7 that is no longer the case . In any case <10 people are placed abroad (directly) via campus placements for any IIT so don't worry too much about that .

Hello Mayank, Its your call. All the options look great as these institutes are highly competitive. I would suggest that you also consider IITKGP-Mining in addition to 1 & 4. Good luck!

Yogita-I am not sure about the rumor and again, its your call. I would prefer to lean towards KGP but you should pick whatever works best for you. Good Luck!

I have to submit my choices today.So plz arrange these priority wise(overall basis).
1.IIT R———— geological/geophysical tech.
2.IT BHU———- chemical.
3.IT BHU———–civil.
4.ISM—————petroleum.
5.IIT kgp———–mining(dual).
I am mostly looking to opt for option 1 or 4.Plz can u compare these options…i mean scope and placements wise.can u provide me the avg packages of these branches.
Pl help me to decide my priority order.

@Pankaj-this is not true. Please verify your facts and talk to some professors if you get a chance.

@Aakanksha-I understand your apprehensions but really there is nothing to worry about. These are some of the best engineering schools in India and safety of students is always a top priority for the administration. The class composition is sometimes very odd-for example 300 boys n 25 girls but that should not get the way of your career goals. Talk to some professors or ex-students to get a better idea of everyday college & hostel life. Good luck!

Watch out for yourself and stay away from trouble. I think you should be fine.
