Black Friday : My review

February 27th, 2007 | by Ridhima Suri |

When I read about this movie, I had very little to
expect.  But when I did watch it, must
say I have a lot to say (ahem..write!)  Human
memory is so short and how easily we forget! Alas!  In some of my previous posts, too, I had
mentioned the power of media, the reach of Television and Cinema.  Black Friday refreshed the tragedy in Mumbai more than a decade ago.

When I saw WORLD TRADE CENTRE some time back, I
observed  that it was so important for
the people of America
to keep reminding themselves of the 9/11 tragedy.  It was a big thing and the whole nation
bleeds at the mention of the tragedy.  Similar feelings overwhelmed me when I saw this movie.

The whole flavor of the movie was simple, reachable and
identifiable.  You watch with awe and
realize

1.      How
easy is it to entice people on religious sentiments.

2.      How
barbaric can people be in the name of religion.

3.      How
easy is it to commit crime and how difficult to run from it (ref. the puppets)

4.      How
the puppet-masters still remain untouched, free, at large and happy in their
homes after ruining several lives and multiple livelihoods!

5.      That
the law does exist.  It takes its own
time.

6.      That
given more resources the forces can do so much better for law and order.  The poor constable was running after the
guity.  He had no gun, no weapon……so realistic,
yet very painful!!  This happens and it
happens just like this.  There was no
sugar coating or candy floss in the movie.

7.      Movies
like these can educate the common man in very simple terms.  The Inspector- in- Charge convinced one of
the conspirators by saying that had God been with you in your gory mission, we
would not have been able to find you….Logic explained.  Simply.

Apart from many  ???? which
crop up for the masterminds, some questions that still remained in my mind are

  1. Did
the people in the system who helped these crooks know how deep the
    conspiracy was?
  2. Were
they ever caught ? Does anybody know anything about the police officials,
customes people and several others who had warm pockets with easy
money.  They were an accessory to
the mass murder….so what became of them ?

The Mumbai blasts are a black mark in the history of India and
secularism as a whole. There are lots of movies made previously on the Mumbai
blasts, yet the ‘dare all bare all facts!!’ of this movie was good.

Such a movie needs guts.  And full marks to the makers of this
film.  And may God bless the souls of
hundreds of innocent victims in Mumbai, Gujarat,
J & K and everywhere else.
