Boiled up!
February 3rd, 2007 | by Ridhima Suri |Well, surely those 10 were not the best days of my life !! Me no Bryan Adams and was down in bed for a nasty boil and fever. A BOIL! Yes, a boil!! Has no sound value but can drive you crazy and park you in the bed for long days………
It all started with an insect bite on my left knee, which one does not even care about. But as time passed by, it started assuming huge dimensions and became bigger and bigger……….i started having fever too and rushed to ‘Urgent Care’ for reassurance, more for my wife (who is equally newly married as I am) than for myself. We were both thinking how different it is for the treatment in India as compared to the U.S. There was no medicine prescribed at all, not even an antiseptic cream!! The theory was to let the infection bleed it and he pierced it with some surgical instrument. Anyways, back to the Boil……..for those of you who freak out on visual and verbal ‘anything to do’ with blood ……….STOP READING NOW……………..Well, the boil became the size of a tennis ball and the fever kept soaring every four hours…….I kept popping paracetamol like vitamins to keep it down!! And then, it burst and there was much pus and blood coming out, first at slow pace, then medium and then really fast……man!! i would try to walk a couple of steps and blood would start running down my knee. So my wife was recently reading about the ‘unfortunate bloody bath’ in Punjab (Khushwant Singh) and here I was, in my very own stylized red leg bath!! So the regular cleaning, unclotting, reclotting, bleeding, cleaning again became a part of my routine between office work and no work!! The malady lies in the fact that ek to one is running high fever and in immense pain, on top of that one had to be tense about the flow of the open wound. Nurse it but don’t bandage it…….clean it but never dettol it!!
Now that we are almost over it, we can sit back and laugh at it……..and I can hop skip run again!! Oh! My agility! it is a relief to have it back!!
Note :-I have written the above post on behalf of my husband and the context is far past…….:))
