Archies…young at heart…n going strong!
February 1st, 2007 | by Ridhima Suri |One fine morning, I woke up to remember those days when at every given opportunity, I used to demand an Archies comic (on occasions like going for shopping with mummy or getting a good rank in class or my birthday or because my brother got his favourite Chacha Chaudhry)…and I would never give up on borrowing any from my didis!! This post is for
• Those who recall the name but cannot figure out anything further.
• Those who recall reading but have stopped for a long, long time
• Those who have no idea of what I am talking about!
Archies is an American comic, famous for its many series featuring the fictional teenagers of Riverdale High School. Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, Jughead Jones, Reggie Mantle, Dilton are all characters created by Bob Montana. While doing this post, I also gathered that all characters were based on people he knew in Haverhill, Massachusetts.
In a classic comic book style, the stories range from teenage crushes to bugging the principal, going to the detention or being the school hero/heroine, preparing for a date or dealing with moral n ethical issues. Miss Grundy is their cool teacher and quite funny! Another character is the bald principal Mr. Weatherbee who tries in vain to bring the ‘d’ of discipline when this gang is around! It has it all and once you start reading, you want to read more and more!!
A teenager comic book for you???
Well, it is never to late to start. I went to a cousin’s place and spotted a couple of Archies comic books in the bedroom and she informed me that they were her father’s and that the whole family including a grandmom reads them!! So much for inspiration!!
Young at heart …..this comic is hilariously and stupidly good! Grab one on any check-out counter next time you go grocery shopping!
