Categorizing Tags into Hierarchies

My own post “What I want in Web2.0″ has, as item number 1, essentially a request to autoconvert tags to categories as defined in the above two posts.
It should be simple to do. Take all the URLs and cluster them based on similar tags. If you think in terms of graphs you want fully connected sets. You may then split them into two or three. This will give you clusters as well as some kind of heirarchy (splits are children?). Now the only thing you need is naming. Pick a set of common tags as the name for example. Just a brief idea but it can be done. In this way you categorize the tags and assign URLs to categories whose tags you matched.
If you import delicious to your browser it could then create a folder structure based on the above categorization by picking one closest category for each URL based on the higher number of tags.
I might write this myself some day…. seeing as how clustering/classification is all I am doing at the moment at work too
