The Da Vinci Code – Dan Brown
August 20th, 2004 | by Digvijay Lamba |I heard of this book first as a highly searched book at one of the search places I know. So I picked it.
I was expecting a slightly new if not totally usual fiction murder mystery.
Man, was I wrong. Its one of the most well researched books I have read. Better keep an encyclopedia on Christianity or the google web page right next to you. Full of references to art and history it’s a breathtaking story which will teach you a lot of history. While a lot of it is pure fiction, its based on meticulous research. I think for me that single fact makes it a must read.
Add to it some amazing puzzles, puzzles within puzzles, a murder mystery, a whodunit, and loads of fast paced reading. I loved it.
The story evolves from a redefinition of the Holy Grail, a lot of history of symbolism and art and a look into the origins of the pagan and the female god.
(SPOILERS AHEAD)
A secret society exists to protect the descendants of Jesus Christ, who is not a god but a mortal who married. The society protects the descendants and Holy Grail, which I will leave to the book to redefine to you. The head of the society and all its leaders are brutally murdered. An art historian and cryptographer girl are plunged into the murder mysteries… as inheritors and victims. I love the story. I love the book.
