Five Point Someone – Chetan Bhagat
August 20th, 2004 | by Digvijay Lamba |There are tons of books/movies on college life/friendship etc. This one appealed to me because it was about IIT. On top of that a friend wrote an awesome description of the book filled with sentiments. You can read that here http://abhishekgoyal.blogspot.com/2004/07/five-point-someone.html. In one line… it was worth every bit.
Meet Hari: The narrator, a not so slick small town Indian, literally bangs into his love interest Neha. Their story forms a most exciting and well portrayed IIT romance… save a few deliberate dramatizations. To top it she is a professors daughter.
Meet Ryan: The proverbial IIT fundoo guy. Good looks, awesome brain, hell with the world attitude… grades in the drains. He is the leader of the pack… and correctly portrays one of the typical personalities you see on campus. Always in trouble… full of potential… you never understand him.
Meet Alok: The Maggu.. the hardworker with a history and dreams. Lands up in the worst (best?) company.
The three go about their antics in an amazing story. I cant tell you the best parts without spoiling your suspense… so read it. It has all the iitian elements… great loyalty to friends… daaru parties.. night outs… bunking classes… fun in the midst of total pressure and finally a typical SSAC drama.
Only thing is… I cant help noticing how IITD profs are extremely lenient. I mean at IITK they didn’t have a chance.
(SPOILER NOW)
They would have been terminated straight away.
