The Count of Monte Cristo : Alexander Dumas (5/5 Must Read)
June 24th, 2004 | by Digvijay Lamba |I had been typically putting off reading this one on one excuse or the other. I thought its going to be another one of the old classics which will not make any sense to me. Boy, was I wrong.
This spellbinding page turner has a plot so complicated that it seems it may overwhelm you, but the pieces keep coming together in a natural way. Even after 150 years the theme of love, betrayal and revenge still kicks ass. The most amazing thing is that you never know what is going to happen next. The author has planned the story so well, that it does not unfold, but rather links up and comes together into a story.
Edmond Dantes is a 20 year old in 19th century France, who is about to get everything he could ever want. Position, money and the love a woman. In one stroke bad luck.. every thing changes. The book is about his revenge on the people who denied him a life, and the extraordinary story of a man who thinks himself to be god.
Read it. Its reputation of being an all time classic is well placed.
